Best Makeup for Oily Skin
While it’s true that a lot of people out there have normal skin, and therefore have their pick of makeup products that will make them look fantastic, it is also true that most of us suffer from one condition or another that prevents us from using certain foundations, mascaras, or other beauty products.
Some of these conditions include:
- Dry skin
- Acne prone skin
- Combination skin
- Sensitive skin
- Oily skin
For those of us with oily skin, we really have our work cut out for us. When our skin produces more natural oils than normal, whatever we put on our faces tend to run or smudge or just look too darn shiny.
Fortunately, the manufacturers of beauty products recognize that this is indeed a common ailment and have created lines of makeup that are designed to work with us.
Unfortunately, a lot of these products simply do not live up to their claims.
In the sections below, we’ll take a look at some of the best makeup for oily skin out there and then provide you with a few tricks of the trade to maintain a healthy and beautiful looking face that will never betray your oily tendencies.
Best Makeup for Oily Skin: The Rundown
Here’s a brief look at the best makeup for oily skin:
- Best Foundation for Oily Skin – In researching a number of beauty care forums and online consumer review sites, it is pretty clear that Chanel Mat Lumiere Luminous Matte Powder Makeup is the top pick. Not only does this foundation work hard to make sure you don’t shine with an oily sheen, but it is also SPF 15, to help protect you from the damaging rays of the sun.
- Best Mascara for Oily Skin – A number of consumers have suggested Maybelline products for this category, but it is Clinique’s High Impact Mascara that has topped the charts. If you’re sick of getting shiny smudges under your eyes by lunchtime, take a stab at this product. By most accounts, it will stay in place all day long, leaving you looking fabulous until you wash it off.
- Best Makeup for Oily Skin Overall – Many different companies make great products for oily skin, but perhaps the best makeup for acne prone skin and oily skin comes from Clinique. They have a number of different mascaras, foundations, and powders that work wonders for those who don’t have naturally perfect pores.
Makeup Tips for Oily Skin
Here are a couple of tips and hints to help you choose the right products that will keep your super oily skin looking great all day long:
- As mentioned above, the best makeup for oily skin won’t be liquid-based. This goes especially for foundations. Powders will soak up your natural oils and keep you looking dry and clean.
- Price is always a factor. But if you want the best makeup for oily skin, you may have to be willing to part with a few extra dollars. The cheap stuff is, unfortunately, made cheaply and won’t work nearly as well for you.
- If nothing is working wonders for you (even the items in the above list), be sure to consult your dermatologist to see what she or he thinks might work the best. Everyone has different skin with different needs and requirements. The best way to help your skin is to find out exactly what those are for you.

My skin is both oily and sensitive as well as acne prone.
It is often very difficult for me to find a foundation or facial lotion I can wear at least a year on end and not have irritation or another round of breakouts.I’m twenty years old and my most recent foundation is giving me problems.I’ve had it for at least half a year.I loved how well it covered my redness and evened my tone out but my dad says go a few days without make-up when my mom is telling me literally every time “You have to wear make-up,you look so much better”.All I think is:”Shut up,it’s doing more bad things for my face than good”.I’ve worn makeup since 12 and I have about had it with switching from brand to brand.Should I see a dermatologist or just give up?
Its tough to find makeup for oily skin! Clarins Matte Foundation is one of the best makeup brands for my oily face, because it lasts a long time. I definitely avoid moisturizer because my skin is so oily, even though “they” say you need a moisturizer at all times. Every single time I use moisturizer, even if it’s designed for oily skin, I break out horribly. But, when I don’t use it I get fewer breakouts. The best product I’ve ever bought is Mattify Ultra Powder from Mattify Cosmetics. I wear it before and after my Clarins makeup, and it stops me from getting shiny for about 5 hours. It looks like I don’t even have pores when I wear the Mattify powder! I’m in love with this stuff, it my go-to face saver!
